Welcome. The Center for World Music is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to foster awareness and understanding of the world's performing arts traditions through programs of performance, teaching, and cultural travel.

Incorporated in San Francisco in 1963, the Center moved its headquarters to San Diego in 1979 and continues its long tradition of sponsoring leading performers in concert and providing instruction by accomplished teachers in music, dance, and theater from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe.

In 2009 the Center will be presenting a series of concerts featuring San Diego artists, visiting artists, and artists in residence from around the globe, along with exciting 2009 study and travel opportunities to such destinations as Indonesia, Africa, Turkey, Mexico, and China.

The Center for World Music receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, and The Parker Foundation.  Recent Center projects have also been supported by the Asian Cultural Council.
