The Center for World Music is proud to support The Worldview Project’s 6th Harmony & Motion International Music and Festival, Friday, September 29 to Sunday, October 1.
Harmony & Motion will celebrate the exquisite diversity of music and dance in San Diego. Show your support for cultural diversity by attending this year’s festival! Blending professional and highly-skilled amateur live music with talented dancers, the festival offers a world tour of exciting music and dance that will delight your ears, eyes and soul. This year’s Harmony and Motion will take place in the beautiful CPMA Theater.
World-spanning Jazz, Spanish flamenco, tribal Filipino dance, Indonesian gamelan, classical Indian dance, trans-national guitar, Thai orchestral music, Japanese taiko, Brazilian forró, Afro-Cuban dance, Persian classical music, and Mexican ballet folklorico performed by the best of the best musicians and dancers—all await you this coming weekend!

Friday, September 29, 7:00 PM – Jazz Journey Around the World
The festival kicks off with a Jazz Journey Around the World with the remarkable multilingual Allison Adams Tucker. Each stop on the tour will feature a different group of elite musicians backing up Allison who will sing songs in Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, English and Japanese! Allison is an authentic and versatile artist of power and grace who can both bring it on or melodically soothe. In keeping with the Harmony and Motion tradition of featuring live music with live dance, some of Allison’s numbers will also showcase choreographed segments performed by exceedingly talented dance artists.
Saturday, September 30, 2:00 PM & 6:00 PM – Unique Shows
On Saturday 12 different music and dance groups will perform. Two unique shows at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm (featuring 6 groups each) will showcase diverse performing traditions from around the world. All of the groups represent the very best talent in San Diego within the cultural genres they honor. Groups include Naruwan Taiko, Omo Ace, the Ostrich Ensemble, Samahan, the Benedetti/Svboda Duo, Besos de Coco, Gloria Lanuza, Shalini Patnaik, Cajuina with Forró San Diego, Kembang Sunda Gamelan, Ballet Folklorico Aztlan, and the Dornob Collective. If you have ever seen any of these groups perform, you know how fabulous they are and we are bringing them all together for a show like no other!
Throughout the day, food trucks will be serving up international treats and meals in between the concerts. International snacks and drinks will also be available for purchase.
Sunday, October 1, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM – Free Workshops
On Sunday there will be free music and dance workshops provided by local studios in San Diego.
