From Ireland to San Diego

From Ireland to San Diego is the first of five concerts in the Center for World Music’s Passport to Worlds of Music Spring 2018 series.

The Máirtín de Cógáin Project

The Máirtín de Cógáin Project is led by its eponym, Máirtín de Cógáin, a performer of extraordinary talent. Crowned All-Ireland Storytelling Champion twice over, Máirtín says that telling stories is his highest joy in life. A superb singer, dancer, and bodhrán (Irish drum) player, he has gathered a group of the finest Irish-American musicians around him. Together, this group brings the story of de Cógáin’s native Cork to an appreciative international following.

Máirtín de Cógáin has performed across his native Ireland, all over the U.S., and beyond. An infectious personality, he easily commands the attention of his audience. If you are lucky enough to catch him spinning a few tales, you are in for a treat.

Heard on the Street

Máirtín is a superb entertainer and a fine gentleman.  He has been a delightful radio guest on Celtic Connections, and I found him to be a highly energetic and thoroughly enjoyable stage performer at our Southern Illinois Irish Festival.  Máirtín is where it’s happening!
– Bryan Kelso Crow, host of NPR’s Celtic Connections

It’s great to see a true artist at work.
– Paddy Reilly, Irish folk singer and guitarist

Máirtín has really impressed me with his passion and knowledge of the Irish tradition; be it singing, inventive bodhrán playing or storytelling. The man has a natural, engaging way with people. Máirtín is set for great things!
Jimmy Crowley, World-renowned Cork balladeer, song collector and songwriter
