The Center for World Music is proud to announce its cadre of Artist-Teachers of traditional music and dance from around the world: India, Indonesia, The Middle East, Mexico, Africa, and Europe. Funded by city, state, and federal Artists-in-Schools grants, these Artist-Teachers are available during the academic school year 2008-09 for short-term or year-round weekly classes as well as for performances at school assemblies. In the spring of 1999, the Center for World Music embarked on a new World Music in the Schools program in San Diego city and county. The program has continued to develop since then. The pages that follow give an overview of the program and its progress.

This activity is funded in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. The program is also funded by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture and the Parker Foundation. It has also been supported by the Asian Cultural Council.

Special thanks to Monty Levenson of Tai Hei Shakuhachi for his generous donation of several of his fine shakuhachis (Japanese bamboo flutes) to the Center's World Music in the Schools Program.
