Jonathan Parker
A native San Diegan from a pioneer California family, Jonathan has held a deep interest in traditional music and culture from an early age. He plays a wide variety of musical instruments, including the fiddle, tin whistle, mandolin, mountain dulcimer and various bagpipes.
As a founding board member of the non-profit organization San Diego Folk Heritage, he promoted and managed concerts, workshops, and festivals for many years. He has worked as a musician, actor, luthier, cabinetmaker, and graphic artist. He has studied and performed the traditional instrumental music of Ireland, England, Sweden, and Spain for more than four decades, and has played extensively for dancers and in many musical ensembles during that time, including The Perfect Cure, The Boxty Band, The Racket Club, and The Gallowglass Collective.
Jonathan holds a deep belief that bringing a wide variety of music and art into our children’s lives leads them to a better understanding of how we relate to one another as people, as contributing members of our society, and as participants in the broader cultural landscape of the world around us.
