Virtual Encounters: In The Steps of Poland’s Village Master Musicians
In The Steps of Poland's Village Master Musicians is a special concert pairing and part of the Center for World Music’s Spring 2021 Virtual Encounters with World Music and Dance series. The first concert on (February 19) will be a collaborative livestream of the Great Improvisation online series. The second concert (March 20) will be a live concert stream with Q&A presented by the Center for World Music. Please join us for both concerts.

Maniucha & Ksawery (POSTPONED)
EVENT POSTPONED! Maniucha & Ksawery are a vocal and bass duo drawing inspiration from the deep-rooted yet endangered traditional songs of the vast Polesie region in Ukraine. Their compositions combine jazz improvisation with songs of spring, harvest, weddings, lullabies and love, to create a narrative of the cycles of nature and human life.

Virtual Encounters: The Regional Music of Mexico Featuring Hermanos Herrera
This 50-minute live-hosted music and discussion event will explore the human experience as expressed through three styles of Mexican regional music. Hermanos Herrera, along with Dr. Rice, will explore the lived meanings of son jarocho, son huasteco, and accordion-based norteño music, from northern Mexico.

Preservation Through Improvisation: The Korean Haegeum
Soo Yeon Lyuh is a master of the haegeum, a traditional Korean bowed instrument. She is known for her flawless technique and full command of the haegeum’s traditional repertoire. At the same time, she is widely recognized for promoting the creation of new pieces for the instrument.

Canyon Crest Academy Javanese Gamelan Concert
Come and experience an outstanding concert of traditional Javanese music, featuring the gamelan ensemble of Canyon Crest Academy High School in Carmel Valley, accompanied by visiting musicians and singers from CalArts. They will perform a program of Javanese gamelan music, led by Center for World Music master teaching artist in residence Pak Djoko Walujo Wimboprasetyo.

Odissi Dance School India Cyclone Benefit Concert
