About Lakshmi “La Chimi” Basile
Lakshmi Basile, nicknamed “La Chimi” by her peers, is a flamenco dancer and performer of the highest level. Born and raised in San Diego, La Chimi is one of the first and only Americans to have cultivated a successful career in Spain, the cradle of flamenco. There she was awarded the coveted national prize, the Concurso de las Minas de La Unión, as well as the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba.
Her artistry has deeply moved flamenco critics, receiving high praise from journalists such as Alberto García Reyes of ABC Sevilla, who described her performance as “a heart-wrenching homage to the romantics of pure flamenco.” “Her dance,” wrote poet and flamencologist Félix Grande, “is one of controlled joy.”
